Tuesday 05/12/06: Valenza Camping to Michaelangelo Camping in Florence. Sunny day, saw Pisa.
Wednesday 06/12/06: Florence – went into town and spant day sightseeing. A really lovely place which deserves further visits.
Thursday 07/12/06: Michaelangelo Camping to Rome. We were saturated in the night. A serious downpour, and we were camped at the bottom of a hill… Packed and drove via the Chianti and Montepuluciano wine regions to Rome.
Friday 08/12/06: Rome – bright and sunny. A relaxing and reorganisation day, enjoying the sun, at last!!

The following morning we drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel in the French Alps and entered Italy. We camped up just outside of Alessandria. It was very wet and so we packed up early the next day and headed south. We saw Pisa. We were most impressed with the ‘falling’ tower as Seamus calls it. Florence appealed to us. We spent 2 nights there amongst the olive trees in a campsite overlooking the city. We did the tourist thing the following day. I was so impressed with the children who were happy to traipse alongside their parents through the churches and museums. The rain soon sent us packing off to Rome. Following some good advice from a Venetian lady we met, we drove through the Tuscan countryside stopping for lunch in the atmospheric town of Montepulciano famous wine producing area. We bought several bottles of our favourite wine and decided that when we’re old and very rich we will retire to that spot.

We’re now in Rome. Like very few tourists we have decided not to see anything here. We are using the warmth of the sun here to just dry out and reorganize our mountain of stuff. Italy is worth many more visits, so some of these places will have to wait for next time.
